There is a special on NightLine tomorrow about a middle school aged boy with Asperger's syndrome. I saw a brief clip. This very articulate boy talks about how others call(ed) him "Retard". It makes me feel sick to my stomach. Evidently, even as early as third grade (next year) kids start grouping off, really noticing differences and setting themselves apart from those with differences.
I am terrified for AJ and the future, specifically middle and high school years.
