School Tears
This am A. didn't want to go to school. He said he had a sore throat. Eventually there were tears and remarks about how handwriting is to hard and it makes his hand hurt. He was visibly anxious at school. We spoke to teacher briefly-he did not want to talk to the teacher initially. She said he could do other things during writing-or do it orally w/ aide. Poor peanut. His tears bring me tears and concerns about the future in school.

Hey sweetie, What a brave little guy for identifying and facing up to his fears! I guess they call it Handwriting Without Tears for a reason -- ie, handwriting is a drag for lots of kids, especially ours. And wtf, how often do we really have to write in this day/age? Can you get him an accomodation and let him keyboard everything? I know he's a genius on the keyboard because I've seen him play Wheel of Fortune as if he were the son of Vanna White!

I can't stand it when Big A is sad, he's such an amazing, sweet, positive guy. I hope his teacher and aide will be aware of his needs and advocate for him on a case-by-case basis in the class, and give him options in situations where the stress outweighs the importance of task completion.
